The Practices in Ireland Concerning the Granting of Non-EU Harmonised Protection Statuses

Abstract: People seeking protection who attain a status with lower guarantees whether, for example, for humanitarian reasons or due to the principle against non-refoulement, are accorded rights determined by a Member State's domestic law. Such statuses, which are not provided for by EU law, may be said to be non-EU harmonised statuses. The current study outlines and compares the EU harmonised and non-harmonised protection statuses currently in operation in Ireland.
