Abstract:
The culture of science in modern Spain is the topic of this book. The science culture is performed in people's attitudes towards, engagement with and enculturation with modern science. Eurobarometer, the survey instrument of the EC in Brussels, has been asking questions pertaining to public sentiment regarding science and technology in 1989, 1992, 2001, and 2005. This series of related surveys has been integrated into a single database with 60 indiators of science culture. This allows for a a unique longitudinal and comparative analysis of the dynamics of science culture of modern Spain. Comparable questions pertain to public knowledge of, interest and engagement with, and attitudes towards science, which are analysed in relation to education, age cohorts, gender and regions of Spain. The book offers a picture of the stabilities and changes and situates the trajectory of Spain within the wider context of EU12 countries. The books thus contributes to the societal conversation of science in modern Spain.
