Abstract: Agricultural trade is at a crossroads. The global agricultural trading system is undergoing a transformation and, as this book has argued, the changes observed in recent years are not temporary disruptions but reflect a deeper structural shift. The system has moved away from a relatively predictable, rules-based environment toward a more fragmented setting, where trade outcomes are increasingly shaped by geopolitical tensions, environmental disruptions, evolving policy instruments, and persistent structural asymmetries across countries. The erosion of predictability, the proliferating use of selective and non-MFN measures, the interaction between trade and broader geopolitical objectives, and the growing role of supply chains and logistics are redefining how agricultural trade operates.
