Chapter 5 in Contemporary Issues in the Integration Processes of Western Balkan Countries in the European Union, 2011, pp 68-78 from Institute of Economic Sciences

Abstract: Main problem of the international economy, nowadays, is how to achieve a satisfactory degree of harmonization between international politics and monetary policies of various countries. The Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted in 2008 the National Program for Integration into the European Union (NPI), which defines the obligations of the Government and individual ministries in the process of European integration and the activities to be undertaken. The paper consists of following chapters: European integration and alignment with the acquits in the EU sustainable development; National strategies for sustainable development in Serbia; Application of the concept of sustainable development throughout enterprises in Serbia. The Paper presents not only the topical themes of the Strategy for Sustainable development applied in Serbia, but its implementation through the cases of business enterprises as well, all, in pursuit of preserving and creating Serbian economy more competitive. Examples of application of the strategy of sustainable development policies in the Republic of Serbia in this paper are the product of best practice companies, which in most cases are the results of FDI flows.
