Chapter 26 in Managing Structural Changes - Trends and Requirements, 2012, vol. 1, pp 471-487 from Institute of Economic Sciences
Abstract:
This chapter presents an empirical analysis of labor market structure and its relationship with foreign trade and economic growth. The labor market structure is measured by a set of diversification indexes inspired from the most important economic diversity indexes used in the literature. On the other hand, the relationship between foreign trade competitiveness and economic growth is evaluated by a Hodrick-Prescott filter for economic cycle’s identification. The results show that the labor market structure and foreign trade competitiveness levels among Eurozone countries are still divergent, and that some Eurozone economies remain in some stationary concentrated state in terms of economic diversity.
