Vania Bessi, Paula Schmitz and Caren Rinker

A chapter in Leadership - Advancing Great Leaders and Leadership from IntechOpen

Abstract: The paper aims to reflect on creativity at work, broadening the perspective on the influence of the environment and leadership practices and policies for expressing creative individuals. Based on theory, it is argued that the creative abilities of individuals need to be associated with an organization whose leadership allows and encourages creative work. The methodology consists of a theoretical essay, to answer the proposed research question: how do leadership and management practices influence the creative expression of workers in different contexts? It appears that leadership plays a fundamental role in creating and maintaining an organizational culture that allows creativity and innovation on the part of employees. Based on this reflection, a theoretical expansion of the componential model of the invention (cyclic model--systemic approach) is presented, listing elements that must be considered when one intends to analyze creativity in the work environment.
