Chapter 4 in List Forum Band 31, 2005, vol. 1, pp 45-54 from List Gesellschaft e.V.
Abstract:
There is a widespread discomfort of the European citizens vis-à-vis Brussels' politics today and in face of the coming Constitution. Though it is true that EU political agents are appointed correctly according to the rules laid down in the Treaty and in nations' constitutions, the ensuring political decisions have often little to do with what the ordinary citizens are concerned with. The political agents are increasingly remote from their principals. The malaise is shown to be rooted in contradictory collective decision rules blurring what citizens want and giving leeway to the European Commission to enforce its own goal of power.(Original text only available in german language)
