Abstract: (1) Sustainability requires learning processes both on the individual and on the societal level. Not only individual rule complience, but also the social processes of rule definition and rule implementation have to be re-adjusted in order to foster sustainable development on a world-wide scale. (2) The United Nations 'Global Compact' opens new options in particular for the societal learning processes. Through this inter-sectoral program, politics, civil society and business firms can try out innovative forms of partnerships ('New Governance'). (3) With regard to sustainabilitiy, economic ethics can formulate four lessons to be learned and thereby contribute to the necessary learning processes both on the individual as well as the societal level.(Original text only available in german language)
