Wie viel Infrastruktur benötigt die alternde und schrumpfende Bevölkerung in Deutschland?

Tobias Just

Chapter 3 in List Forum Band 33, 2007, vol. 1, pp 37-55 from List Gesellschaft e.V.

Abstract: The demographic trends in Germany will seriously impact supply and demand for public infrastructure. Significant savings for the public budgets are not expected, though. There might plausibly be fewer com-muters in an ageing and shrinking society. But as road freight transport is likely to continue booming, the need to invest in repair and maintenance of the road network will in fact grow. Moreover, the public mains and sewage systems must be adapted to the shrinking population, especially in the outward migra-tion regions. Therefore, urban renewal in these regions must not be confined to the demolition of vacant residential units only. (Original text only available in german language)
