Abstract: This article discusses the current minimum wage debate in the US and the amendments made to the Federal Labor Standards Act increasing the federal minimum wage. It gives a brief overview of the recent minimum wage research and outlines that there is a relatively consistent indication of negative employment effects of minimum wages. Hence, it can be argued that economists and think tanks have largely failed in communicating their findings to the public as well as to policy makers in the US.
