Marcus Kottmann / Bernd Kriegesmann / Frank Striewe

Chapter 5 in List Forum Band 34, 2008, vol. 1, pp 56 - 70 from List Gesellschaft e.V.

Abstract: The availability of highly qualified and skilled personnel decreases in Germany. Above all small and medium sized enterprises are not in the position to fill vacancies sufficiently with engineers, scientists or technicians. There is not only a lack of ,heads' but in many cases operating requirements and individual competencies do not fit. Cooperation between companies and academia is necessary to cope with quanti-tative and qualitative shortages. The present article addresses the possible solutions at the example of engineers and develops strategies for a reorientation in industrial training portfolios to overcome escalat-ing shortcomings of engineers in the next five years.
