Abstract: Agriculture is a vital activity with major consequences on food security of the population and on regional and local ecosystems, becoming a geostrategic tool important for the economic development of any country. In accordance with the requirements of the European Union, agriculture must be developed and transformed into an ecological agriculture that can offer viable solutions for: satisfying the demand for natural products obtained without the use of fertilizers and chemical substances, while at the same time diversifying and expanding the agricultural sector in harmony with environmental protection and the principles of sustainable development. The aim of the paper is to highlight the evolution of Romanian agriculture in the context of sustainable development according to the requirements of the European Union.
