Abstract:
Companies today can only compete if they offer products and services that meet the customer's individual needs. The unpredictability of market changes, the growing product complexity and continuous pressure on production costs force companies to develop the ability of responding and adapting to change quickly and effectively. It becomes progressively clearer that the next generation of factories needs to be modular, scalable, flexible, open, agile and knowledge-based in order to be able to adapt, in real time, to the continuously changing market demands, technology options and regulations. Digital manufacturing has been considered, over the last decade, as a highly promising set of technologies for reducing product development time and cost as well as for addressing the need for customization, increased product quality, and faster response to the market. In this work, the system for evaluating industrial enterprises readiness for Digital manufacturing, created by the authors, is discussed. This system assesses the degree of maturity of 30 Concept business processes related to Digital manufacturing that are structured into three groups: Integrated product design; Factory planning; Production operations planning. Evaluation system has been piloted in one Bulgarian and one Serbian manufacturing SMEs.
