Abstract:
Is the entrepreneur a particular breed of people, or entrepreneurship can be learned? What are the levels of entrepreneurship and how can coaching help the transition from one stage of entrepreneurship to another? These are the questions that the present study is based on and intends to explore. In the current, fast growing market, increasingly dominated by technology, one has to have what it takes to make it in the field of business. One, the entrepreneur, besides owning a specific set of assets, must best know how to turn the situations to her/his advantage, to know when to act and when to seek specific help. With the help of a professional coach, one can grow from dreamer-entrepreneur to small business entrepreneur, to owner of Business Empire; the junior manager can grow to executive and top management positions (this is why differences between entrepreneur and manager ought to be explored). Each stage of entrepreneurship has its own particular characteristics and one is required to master different types of activities and own a specific set of personal traits. The present paper will follow the literature study regarding the arguments for and against an entrepreneurial profile – along the firm life cycle – trying to identify entrepreneurship stages, and will observe how coaching can influence the process of entrepreneurial growth, from that standpoint of managerial performance. Coaching as a powerful process can speed up stages of growth and change, can bring clarity to the objectives, values and thinking patterns as well as help the entrepreneur discover his/her real potential. The authors will argue the stages of becoming entrepreneur, the levels of entrepreneurship as well as what it takes to be an efficient entrepreneur. The change process that one might follow in order to attain the entrepreneurial assets, might be facilitated by professional coaching and also it can be improved or enhanced. Last but not least it all turns to choice. The paper argues the personal choice regarding the stage of entrepreneurship owned by one, the choice to stay in that particular stage or to change it. Owning a particular level of entrepreneurship and bringing out of it what is best, bringing it to its full potential is also the object of professional coaching.
