Abstract:
TThe aim of this article is to identify the use of innovation organizations as a tool for measuring entrepreneurial orientation (EO). It will give the answer to the question whether the innovativeness is a correct measurement of EO. Considerations start with the review of the conceptualisation of the innovativeness of the companies and of the innovations, as well as, the discussion on selected concepts of their measurement. Since EO is a multidimensional construct, selected dimensions of EO were briefly discussed and their definitions were presented. Innovativeness was defined through its features: inimitability and non-substitutability, which shows that it is the base of heterogeneity of the company. This predestines innovativeness to perform the role of a fundamental variable which explains the reasons for the improvement of the financial results. The scientific literature research on the relationship between EO and the results confirms that innovativeness is one of the most frequently used measurement of EO regardless whether the EO construct in the empirical research was treated as uni- or multidimensional. A special attention was paid to the connection between other dimensions of EO with innovativeness of the organisation, as well as, the need to recognise pitfalls for firms that invest in innovation.
