Abstract: This research paper contributes to discussion on the development of digital economy and focuses on the promotion of competitiveness of European Union (EU) regions and SMEs in the Digital Single Market (DSM) environment through uptake and integration of modern ICT tools. The research work presents a comparative analysis of the digital economy development in eleven selected EU regions according to the framework of SKILLS+ project . Despite diverse economic conditions and existing digital gap between regions, they also face common challenges and can apply similar tools for promoting SMEs competitiveness, and extended their knowledge to other regions.
