Abstract: The authors address the issues of business succession in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) – as regards management and/or ownership succession. In Eastern European countries – where their economies were challenged by half-century-plus communist centrally-planed systems – the development of the private, competition-based market economy and associated business culture has suffered a historical intermission (and business succession, essentially the ownership succession, became pointless). On top of all these, the cultural prints added on certain peculiarities. The paper presents some of these cultural patterns, example-based, associated with the Romanian entrepreneurial prototype. The research results are useful for entrepreneurs facing the crucial strategic decisions about management and/or owner-ship succession in their small, family-owned, businesses.
