Abstract: It has become a timely topic in Hungary to look at the chance of women returning from child-care leave to the labour market. Child-care leave is particularly long in this country, so it is no wonder that employers, as well as mothers at home with their children, find it crucial to retain, maintain and improve special knowledge during their absence. This essay is introducing parts of our qualitative research in the form of an in-depth interview made with 11 young mothers to find out how they managed to keep and maintain their professional knowledge during their absence. We were also curious how they could use and improve this knowledge upon returning to the world of work: whether they could improve on it with or without the help of their organizations to meet everyday demands.
