This important volume prepared under the auspices of The Project of History of Indian Science, Philosophy and Culture makes an attempt to fill a serious lacuna by providing a comprehensive look at the social history within the larger parameters of state and society: state forms and patronage, demographic distribution, societal organisation, slavery, social change, gender relations, and urbanization.
