From Theory to Practice: Lessons Learned and Future Directions in Basic IncomeBasic Income Research
Simon Watkins ()
Chapter Chapter 10 in Basic Income, Work Incentives and Job Search Behaviour, 2025, pp 187-198 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This concluding chapter recounts the book’s journey from theoretical concepts to empirical analysis. It distils the key insights from the research, addresses methodological limitations, and outlines future research directions. It then provides guidance for context contingent implementation strategies, complementary policy frameworks, and transitional pathways towards basic income. The chapter concludes by reflecting on basic income’s potential to enhance developmental freedom, particularly the potential for basic income to facilitate meaningful life choices aligned with personal values rather than immediate economic necessities, when implemented within supportive institutional contexts.
