Abstract: Abstract Gender-responsive budgeting (GRB) has achieved recognition globally as a key strategy to translate policy commitments on gender equality and women’s empowerment into effective implementation. The chapter “Gender Incursions in the Domain of Budgets: The Practice of GRB in Asia Pacific” focuses on the experience of GRB in the Asia-Pacific region, the ways in which it has been applied in different contexts and policy environments. It attempts to draw the common threads across the different experiences in terms of the nature and scope of GRB initiatives, the key actors and strategies, as well as tease out some of the critical debates and questions that have emerged over the years. Building on these diverse practices, the authors argue that GRB can be a strategic lever for transformational change only if it is employed to support action and investment that place gender equality at the heart of development goals and macroeconomic frameworks.
