Chapter Chapter 1 in The Coronavirus Pandemic and Inequality, 2023, pp 1-6 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter sets the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of other serious disease outbreaks in the twenty-first century and the 1918 worldwide influenza pandemic, with which it is often compared. It then explains what is meant by a global approach to studying this pandemic, which countries will be included in this study, and ends by providing two tables with summary information about population characteristics of the countries included.
