Part III Conclusion

James Forder

Chapter Chapter 18 in Milton Friedman, 2019, pp 315-317 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Conclusions are drawn from the consideration of Friedman’s research on monetary economics up to 1982. It is noted that the empirical orientation of his earlier work, considered in Chapter 11 persisted. However, in his monetary work he encountered more systematic opposition to his views. Whilst Friedman, much more than his opponents, sought to find ways to resolve their disputes, he never in fact succeeded in persuading them. An illusion that he had won the argument was created by the development of the Phillips curve myth.
