Abstract: Abstract Young dealt with many practical problems and avoided a sharp distinction between theory and practice. He made important practical contributions in the field of depreciation and rate control, railway rate making, personal and impersonal taxation, enumeration of young children and American anti-trust laws. He stated that although American anti-trust laws had blundered in several respects, their general direction was not at fault. Young also helped design a system of old-age pension for the poor of Massachusetts. He opposed the McNary-Haugen Bill aimed at farm relief and its discriminatory pricing under farm tariff scheme. Young also played a key role as part of the American delegation to negotiate peace in Paris.
