Abstract: Abstract In two decades, Hong Kong has transformed from an entrepôt to an industrial economy. The record of its industrial growth is the envy of many a developing nation. From 1962–70, for which years the necessary data are obtainable, the gross industrial output of Hong Kong increased at an annual average rate of 16·2 per cent. The corresponding growth rates for industrial employment and labour productivity are 10·3 and 5·5 per cent respectively.
