Recent British Experience in Nationalization
W. Lewis
A chapter in Monopoly and Competition and their Regulation, 1954, pp 459-470 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract THIS paper will report on the recent experience of British public corporations in four matters: (1) labour relations, (2) protection of the consumer, (3) efficiency, and (4) maintaining competition. It will not try to assess whether the nationalized industries have been more successful in these matters than have private monopolies subject to public control, partly because there has been very little control of private monopolies in Great Britain, and partly because nationalization is so recent that it is not possible to reach clear or definitive conclusions about it.
