A chapter in Value and Capital: Fifty Years Later, 1991, pp 31-37 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The theme of Grandmont’s chapter has a clear bearing on the general objective of this conference, which I take to be an attempt at appraisal and overall evaluation of the work originally inspired by Value and Capital. His chapter is very accurate on technical aspects but I would rather not engage in a discussion about details. It prompted me to re-read some of the classic Hicksian papers (as well as Value and Capital). I was struck by the comparison with the more recent literature reviewed in the paper, because at first sight it shows a fairly radical change in perspective. I have formulated a few questions, which I will present at the end together with some general remarks.
