Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to shed some light on what seems to be one of the crucial aspects of the economic reforms now going on in several countries of the socialist group. The essence of these reforms is a transformation of the economic system from one governed by central planning to one largely governed by the market. The transformation presents formidable and historically unprecedented problems, both intellectually and technically. One of these problems is, very naturally, that of what role, if any, should be assigned to planning in the desired future system.
