Abstract:
Abstract One of the great themes of Ezio Tarantelli’s research was that social conflict can be a major impediment to successful economic performance. He recognised that the industrial economies differed markedly in their mechanisms for resolving social conflicts, particularly in the institutions for regulating the distribution of income between labour and capital. These differences, Tarantelli pointed out, could help to account for the differing success of the various European economies in adjusting to the adverse shocks of the 1970s.
