Abstract:
Abstract Regional policy has assumed a far greater importance since Portugal joined the European Community (EC). On the one hand, the opening up of the economy can accentuate existing imbalances, while on the other, integration into the community has provided Portugal with an opportunity to redress various imbalances and improve economic performance within a relatively short time-span.
