APEC and the United States of America

Chapter 14 in International Trade Policy and the Pacific Rim, 1999, pp 302-318 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract I have been assigned the task in this volume of articulating the North American view on the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation forum (APEC). Of course, just as there is no single Asian view on APEC, there is no single North American view on it; but to minimize the confusion that can result from this multiplicity of views, I shall organize my discussion around the US government’s strategy towards APEC. In examining this strategy critically, I hope also to cover alternative views on the subject.
