The Microeconomic Aspect of East-West Cooperation: The Hungarian Experience

Béla Csikós-Nagy

Chapter 12 in Economic Relations between East and West, 1978, pp 192-210 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This study is concerned with East—West cooperation in its microeconomic aspect, which it analyses in the light of the Hungarian experience. With Hungary, we focus on a socialist country whose economy is highly foreign-trade sensitive and marked by a substantial trade with the West. In 1975, Hungary’s exports accounted for over 40 per cent of her national income, and her foreign-trade turnover was divided between CMEA and non-CMEA countries in the proportion of 66:34.
