Abstract:
Abstract This paper attempts to provide a comparative perspective on the energy conservation performance of the advanced market-economy countries and the European socialist countries. An attempt is made to identify the common and different characteristics of the demand response of the two systems both to the first and the second oil price explosion. The first part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of the advanced-market economies’ experiences. The second part discusses the policy responses of the socialist countries. The paper concludes with a comparison of conservation performance.
