Abstract: Abstract Among the countries with planned economies the most important are the seven European socialist countries belonging to the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance: the USSR, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic, Poland, Rumania and Hungary. In our report we shall use for them the terms ‘socialist countries’ and ‘member countries of the CMEA’. We shall not concern ourselves with other centrally planned economies, particularly with the Asiatic ones, the Republic of Cuba or Yugoslavia, whose economic systems differ from that of the CMEA member countries.
