Chapter Chapter 3 in The Collaborative Era in Science, 2018, pp 37-60 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter describes the communications dynamics within the global network by detailing the tenets of complexity theory to provide insights in the mechanisms driving the global system. Complex systems theory provides the framework within which to discuss the phase shift of scientific knowledge from an era of scarcity to one of abundanceabundance—a theme that will appear in the next several chapters.
