Abstract:
Abstract With a population of 4.2 million people, Kentucky was the twenty-sixth most populous state in the United States in 2007. From 2000 to 2007 the state’s population increased by 199,705 people, and is projected to increase to 4.5 million by 2025. This 0.3% projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 0.8%. From 2006 to 2007 the state’s population grew by 0.8%. The state’s 2007 per capita personal income of $30,787 was higher compared to $29,719 in 2006 and the sixth lowest in the United States, some $7,777 below the national average. Per capita income in Kentucky grew at a compound annual rate of 3.4% from 2000 to 2007, compared to 3.7% nationally.
