Abstract:
Abstract As we have worked with emerging leaders and observed established leaders, we find that certain qualities and behaviors help leaders be successful. We do not subscribe to the trait theory of leadership, but rather find that successful leaders exhibit some fairly consistent behaviors. We agree with Kouzes and Posner that “leadership is an observable set of skills and abilities than are useful whether one in the executive suite … or on Main Street.”1 Many of these qualities have also been useful in our own careers.
