Abstract The world of nonprofits is larger and more varied than you might think. Public charities and foundations total well more than one million organizations, by far the largest category among the many within the larger nonprofit world, which consists of almost 2 million organizations.1 Most people use the words “ nonprofit” and “charity” interchangeably.
