Chapter Chapter 1 in The Political Economy of China’s Systemic Transformation, 2011, pp 1-18 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was formed in 1921. The initial thrust of the CCP movement in China was centered in urban areas. In 1927, the Nationalist government of Chiang Kai-shek intensified its campaign measures against the nascent CCP. After losing more than 80 percent of its members by late 1927, the 56-member CCP redirected its focus of revolutionary activities from urban to rural regions.
