Abstract: Abstract UNICEF in its 2009 report The State of the World’s Children states: 8.8 million children die every year before their fifth birthday due to poverty. 4 million newborns die in the first month of life. 22 million infants do not get routine immunizations. 101 million children (more girls than boys) are not attending primary school. 148 million children under five years of age are underweight.
