Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides a perspective of the issues involved in this study by way of a brief taxonomy of foreign direct investment (FDI) theories and hypotheses. It also offers a discussion of the current international environment, an examination of Japanese FDI outflows and an outline of the context and motivation of the present study, including its design, methodology and goals.
