Envy, Desire, and Mimetism
Bénédicte Vidaillet
Chapter 3 in Workplace Envy, 2008, pp 46-58 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, my discussion will be based, for the most part, on a thesis introduced in the 1960s and then further developed by René Girard, a renowned French philosopher whose work has been very influential, particularly in the United States where he teaches comparative literature. This thesis is known as the “theory of mimetism”, the “mimesis theory” or “theory of mimetic desire”.
