Expectation and Evaluation

Christina Garsten

Chapter 5 in Workplace Vagabonds, 2008, pp 101-122 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Transformations in career and community can fruitfully be studied by addressing the practices that act upon people and their behaviour in specific domains of work, and the perspectives that underpin these practices. Attempts to reorganize and manage organizational and labour market change and to secure the engagement of people presuppose particular identities that are constructed at the juncture of organizational know-how and economical and political ideals (Foucault 1991, Miller and Rose 1995). For flexible organization to be realized, flexible workers have to be fashioned.
