Chapter 1 in Business Services in European Economic Growth, 2007, pp 15-38 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The most direct contribution of the business-services sector to economic growth comes from its own dynamism and expansion. The present chapter discusses the stylized facts about business-services growth in the European Union. We discuss explanatory factors and we also differentiate between business-cycle and structural elements in the sector’s growth. Separate explanations will be offered for the cyclical volatility and for the structural component in the growth of business-services industry. In the final part of the chapter we analyse the characteristics of business services employment.
