Abstract The topic of this contribution is ‘Fast, but sustainable? Challenges and policy-options for the catching-up process of Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries’. While the focus will be on CEE countries that are member states of the European Union (EU), some of the key points discussed are also of interest to countries in South-Eastern Europe.
