Debtonation? When and Why will it Happen?
Ann Pettifor
Chapter 6 in The Coming First World Debt Crisis, 2006, pp 145-162 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter I want to explore and list potential ‘debtonators’ — events or imbalances likely to trigger a prolonged First World debt-deflationary crisis. Included in the list is the threat posed by events related to climate change, like Hurricane Katrina; house price crashes; a rise in interest rates and a cut in consumer spending; the threat posed by the US deficit and a dollar collapse; and finally the oil price shock.
