Abstract: Abstract When current world energy consumption is considered from the perspective of long-term historical trends, it appears that the last 150 years have been an exceptional but unsustainable period: exceptional in terms of the improvement of comfort and standards of living; unsustainable in terms of the climate change which has resulted. Let us take a brief look at the past.
