Chapter 3 in Innovation Policies and International Trade Rules, 2009, pp 37-96 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the efficacy of Chinese textiles and clothing policies and their relationship with the growth trajectories followed by the T&C industry over the course of the past two decades. While assessing the relevance of T&C policies it was considered vital to take into consideration all of the stakeholders in the industry. Hence in addition to analysing the policy initiatives we have conducted surveys of several large firms to understand the role played by state policies in technological capacity building. Consequently, the chapter is divided into three parts. The first part of this chapter discusses T&C policies and their impact on the performance of the sector. In Part II we present case studies of clothing sector firms while Part III presents case studies of textiles firms.
