Abstract:
Abstract Many firms acknowledge the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as an important source of competitiveness. Public authorities are progressively sharing their approach and, indeed, it is the aim of the European Union, as well as, that of the US and most OECD countries, to focus on the creation of a knowledge-based economy. In a knowledge-based economy wealth is created by transforming knowledge into value, that is, mostly into IPRs. As a result, the European Union, as its strategy for the future of the region, as well as, most OECD countries has developed political, legislative and operational IPR strategies to assist firms and economies.
