Death, Illness and Grief: Foundational Mysteries for Transforming and Humanizing Work

John Bottomley

Chapter 14 in Promoting Workplace Well-Being, 2009, pp 189-202 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter on promoting workplace well-being in the Australian context is bracketed by two reflections on the relationship between the ideology of work in Australian industrialized society and Indigenous Australians’ experience. If the opening bracket into Indigenous experience helps us see how work in Australian industrialized society is captive to denial about the realities of death, illness and grief in Australian work organizations, the closing bracket discloses a path to well-being.
